Rue in the News and Signing Books

Updated: Sep 11

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your support of Rue! She's selling well and everyone seems to love her, so I appreciate that! Soooo grateful!

Quick update in the news about Rue:

Also, I received this wonderful review from BookLife Prize:

“Barker's prose is lovely and lighthearted and an absolute delight to indulge in. It makes for an almost compulsively readable story. There's a wistful, magical quality to this novel that somewhat defies genre character. Elements of literary fiction and romance abound, making for broader appeal.” ~ The BookLife Prize

On a different note: I find myself being asked to sign paperback copies of Rue. I'm so flattered and happy about this! But also surprised. I don't know why. I guess I took so much time writing and publishing Rue that I never thought about what would come next. Also, during this pandemic, it's not like I can host a huge book-signing party anyway. However, yes, I have signed a handful for close friends and family.

Here is my dilemma: What do I sign? I'm a writer, so this should be easy, right? Sure, write a few cute and pithy words and then sign my name. So simple! Ugh. I tried a few with something catchy about "taking risks" or "life is short," or "rue-l the day," but none of these quite get across the sentiment of Rue. You see, I want to say something that makes the reader think of Rue in a nostalgic way; the way I think about books after I'm done and they still bring me joy in the memory of them.

Anyway, I'm still pondering and don't have the answer. I'm just letting you know because maybe someday I'll sign your paperback version of Rue and you'll wonder why I wrote something stupid and now you'll know why.

In the meantime

To You, Faithful Reader,

I don't know what to write here, so instead I'll just say:

Grow new R-U-E-T-S today and enjoy!
